"ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTERS"
- The issue that matters to me is Environmental Disasters.
- I could use my handwritting skills by making some slogans to spread awareness on this topic and open the minds of people.
- To make difference by cultivating this talent and to help spread this information.
What is Environmental Disaster?
Environmental disasters are the realization of hazards to serious impacts, damages
and losses, initiating in some or the other environmental systems or resources.
These hazards are related to various environmental processes and systems
including geo-morphological, topographical/landscape, atmospheric/ climatic, geochemical, edaphic, hydrological, hydrodynamic, features, along human interventions including industrial/urban, etc.
What are the different types of Environmental Disasters?
If we look at the disasters that have taken place earlier, we can easily say that nature is not merely responsible for them to happen. They happen due to other reasons too. This is why we have classified them in different categories. First comes the natural disasters which are caused by natural processes. They are the most dangerous disaster to happen which causes loss of life and damage to the earth. Some of the deadliest natural disasters are earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, and more.
Furthermore, we have man-made disasters. They are the results of technological hazards or man’s carelessness. Some of the man-made disasters include fires, nuclear explosions or radiations, oil spills, transport accidents, terrorist attacks and more. Nature has little or no role to play in these types of disasters.
What are the causes of Environmental Disasters?
Natural disasters are large-scale geological or meteorological events that have the potential to cause loss of life or property. These types of disasters include:
- Tornadoes and Severe Storms
- Hurricanes and Tropical Storms
- Floods
- Wildfires
- Earthquakes
- Drought
How to prevent Environmental Disaster?
Disasters can be prevented by:
- raising awareness
- learning from other disasters and emergencies
- proper and sustainable management of land and infrastructure
- putting in place early warning systems
- developing national policies and recommendations.
For instance, constructing earthquake-resistant buildings, water supplies and sanitation systems in earthquake-prone regions, such as Japan, greatly reduces the consequences of future quakes.
